how many colors the sky can become,
how many birds wait to dazzle you in flight,
how many deer run the lonely hills behind you,
how many trails are left to explore,
how many songs remain to be sung,
how many children walk this earth afraid,
how many days you have left to live,
would you live differently?

Yes!!! Thank you for the beautiful words!
Thank you so much for visiting my blog!
Great questions!! I love the unlimitedness that you direct your reader’s attention towards…beautiful…
Angela, I agree with your observation about unlimitedness. I think this may be the tone of much of my writing because I have more questions than answers. In fact, with Rilke, I think we are meant to live the questions!
Indeed, sir, a wise way to live, with fullness of the questions bursting out of each breath.
Mark, this is lovely and ties right into something I’ve been writing (not nearly so poetic or deep) for our church newsletter. Could I quote your poem at the end of my column, attributing you of course, or would you prefer that I not?
Janet, I’d be honored for you to use it in your newsletter. Blessings to you and your congregation. Mark
Thank you, Mark!
This is incredibly beautiful. Wise. Succinct. And quite thought-provoking. Thank you so much for sharing, and with a perfect photograph as well.
Thanks for your kind words, Gina. Peace, Mark
Thank you for this beautiful poem and image. I’ve been reading some Celtic prayers lately – the poem reminded me of them.
I appreciate Celtic prayers too. Thanks for your kind words. Peace, Mark
Just lovely Mark — really makes you take pause….
Thanks so much, Robyn.
Dear Mark, it humbles me to see a great man say he has more questions than answers. I think you are probably the first pastor I know who have said this and it increases a deep respect for all that you do and all that you stand for. I always come here blessed just by your life. Your commitment to the peoples of the world. Your faith in God. Your steadfastness towards your calling. Thank you for this beautiful work which must have flowed from a beautiful source. God bless, Sharon
Sharon, I only know Mark by reputation, through his blog and by having the privilege to work with him via email on writing projects over the years. Reading your comment really makes me wish I could know him in person and experience him as a pastor. You are blessed! – Janet (in Wisconsin)
Janet, Thanks so much for your kindness and support of my writing over the years. I thought I should clarify that Sharon and I only recently met through blogging. She lives in Finland and writes a beautiful blog that can be found at: aleafinspringtime.wordpress.com/ Check it out! Peace, Mark
Mark – thanks for the clarification. I misread Sharon’s comment; I took “I always come here …” to mean come to church. I will check out her blog, too! Thanks.
Janet
Dear Sharon, your generous words truly humble me, and they encourage me to continue sharing my writing in the hopes that it will touch others. Thank you for your continued kindness and warm spirit! Blessings, Mark
My husband and I read your blog regularly and we have both been so very blessed by your words and Dallis’ beautiful photography. Thank you for all that you do and for sowing into the lives of so many. Blessings to you too! Sharon & Sam
