Blistery blustery beautiful day

God,
I want to see you
in each person I meet today
in each conversation I have with another
in each joy discovered
in each suffering shared.

I want to know
in my inmost being
the humanity of Jesus
whose constant prayer was
to be intimately connected with you
in the doing of justice
the enactment of peace
the power of sacrificial love.

I want to seek
friendship with the divine
more than right beliefs
dutiful virtues
or accepted behaviors
so that the movement of my soul
might be toward life in its fullness
life in touch with the Center
life contributing to newness
life in communion with others
life as holy gift
life as sheer wonder.

May I embody
what to me is true
what to me is beautiful
what to me is eternal –
a life whose wholeness is found in God,
a song that can only be sung
in concert with all of creation!

side of the roadOn the road
work beckoning
a daily duty
to be productive
to be hard at work
to be diligent in all things
to be focused on the important
to be tied to the meeting of goals
to be steadily progressing in the disciplined life

Only to be stopped in my tracks
stalled into awareness
dared to open my eyes
to the morning unfolding
in the periphery
where the land rises from the depths
in ways that mirror our own emergence
as living beings
within the large and beautiful Ground of all Being

Here the stillness refreshes
and releases me
to live
in the now

in the now of eternity

Precious Lord,
walk with me this day
as you have in days past.
Wrap me in your deep presence
for the work you place before me.
Center me in your holy companionship
for these disquieting times.
Lift my spirit
that I might in turn lift others.
Lend me the perspective of your creative love
to help me perceive each person’s sacred worth.
Hold me accountable to the divine image within me
that it might be visible through my actions and words.
Then as the sun paints the sky at day’s glorious end
let my soul find its rest in your peace.
Awaken me renewed in the morning
to rise and meet the summons of a new day
sustained by the bounty of your grace. Amen.
